Description of Panasonic NI-L45NR Cordless IronCordless Steam Iron, 1400W, Touch Button Temperature Control, Cord Reel Base, Storage & Carrying Case This electric cordless iron comes complete with its own carrying case, making it ideal for sewing teachers headed to a class, costume designers on their way to the set, or a wedding party traveling across the country with wrinkled bridesmaid?s dresses. Once the power base is plugged in, the cordless iron begins to generate heat. The flatiron simply lifts off the base for use and there is no dangerous cord to get tangled up in. The three temperature/steam settings function via an electronic keypad on the handle, and an internal microprocessor accurately maintains the correct heat. A fabric chart on the power base recommends appropriate heat settings for specific fabrics. A steam button on the top of the iron?s handle has three positions--high, low, or off--and can be adjusted for each garment. The iron also has a jet-of-steam button, which releases excess steam for tough wrinkles and also clears out clogged vents. An automatic water seal ensures that water won?t drip from the soleplate when the temperature is below the steaming point. A large transparent purple window makes it easy to monitor when the water for steam needs to be refilled, and the tank detaches for easier filling. This electric steam iron has a nonstick soleplate, which glides easily over clothing and reduces the chance of burns. Finally, for safety, the iron automatically shuts off in 10 minutes if left unattended in the power base. This power base has a convenient retractable cord, and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde
Tools and Hardware Reviews of Panasonic NI-L45NR Cordless IronCustomer Review: Ultimate in Safety and Performance for Quilters & Sewers! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this iron for about a month now and have used it 3-4 hours a day. I bought it primarily for safety reasons. I am a quilter and I use my iron on a pressing board set on my work surface. I keep my iron on the table top but I became very concerned about safety when the cord on my old iron kept getting caught on my chair arms. I taped the cord down as much as I could, even took the arms off my very expensive office chair, but something else would eventually catch on the cord. Also my 4-year old grandaughter loves to play in my sewing room while I am working and I knew it was a matter of time before she would reach over that iron and get burned on the forearm. I have lots of little white lines on my arms from such burns. I also hate the type of auto-off feature on most irons which allow the iron to turn itself on if it is laid flat again - or knocked over by a cat. This iron is OFF until you turn it on again. That took me a little while to get used to but now I don't mind a bit that I have to turn it back on when I haven't used it for ten minutes. I anticipate when I am going to need it and click it on. The iron indicates when it reaches the selected temperature. It heats up plenty fast and holds its heat for as long as I would hold an iron without resting it. The iron rests in a secure base in a position which actually makes it difficult to get burned. The base is stationary so the cord stays out of the way. Yes, there's a small delay after a couple of BIG shots of steam before it will 'shoot' again. If I needed more than a couple of shots because of deep creases I would use a water spray bottle anyway. This iron does not have a spray feature which is fine by me as I never used that on other irons. Also with this iron I can see exactly how much water is left and exactly how much to put in. I love being able to take the water chamber off to refill it - no more disastrous water spills on my work area. So far this iron does not spit large spots of water when not quite hot enough to steam. It seems that it doesn't even try to steam until it's hot enough, which makes this about the best clothing iron I've ever used. I read up on both available cordless irons and couldn't find any difference in the features except for price. I could not be happier with my choice. It works great and I enjoy sewing much more without the constant worry that the dang iron would fall over or burn someone.
