Tools and Hardware Reviews of Panasonic NI-C78SR Steam/Dry Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate

Customer Review: Fine iron, affordable price
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this iron to replace an old Panasonic iron with a retractable cord.

First, I'm absolutely sold on having a retractable cord. Besides the fact that this iron works very well, the retractable cord is the main reason I've stuck with Panasonic. It makes storing the iron so much easier. I leave my ironing board up, in a spare room, and keep the iron (upright) on the board when I'm not using it. I don't have to worry about the cord unwrapping and one of our cats getting a hold of it. The retracting mechanism works very well; it worked quite well on the old one, but they've obviously improved it on this new one.

This iron creates a lot of steam, which I like because it easily gets all wrinkles out, even on very creased clothes that you left in the dryer much too long. Besides being usable as a normal steam iron it is usable vertically in steam mode so that you can get wrinkles out of hanging clothes.

The removable water tank is also a nice feature. The iron is the right weight (it has some heft but isn't too heavy; or worse, too light). I also like the stainless steel soleplate; I prefer that to a supposedly non-stick surface, which usually isn't.

I haven't found anything I don't like about this iron, and the price is right. It works better and has more features than many irons much more expensive.

Customer Review: Love this iron!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a seamstress and have a clothes press and a gravity-feed iron in my sewing room. I need to also have a household iron for quick touch-ups and easy accessibility. I have finally given up on Rowenta after having had three of them leak and quit much before their time. Despite their price, I remain thoroughly unimpressed (no pun intended) with their ability to stand the test of time and last. I am so glad that I ordered this Panasonic iron since it has everything I am looking for at a reasonable price from Amazon.

I want a stainless steel sole-plate - it can be cleaned without damaging it when something gets on it. I am getting away from Teflon in the house at all due to the questions of toxicity when it gets heated. Secondly, the removable water tank works great and allows for cleaning of the iron itself much more easily than an attached-tank iron. Third, it is loaded with features: it is heavy - I WANT a heavy iron for performance; it steams when vertical; has a a retractable cord (YES!), has a shot-of-steam feature; and has a automatic shut-off when it is in the down position for 1 minute or left untouched for 10 minutes. PLUS it has the Good Housekeeping Seal of approval.

Who could want for more in a reasonably-priced steam iron?

Customer Review: Exactly what I wanted!
Summary: 5 Stars

We already had an iron; my husband is the main ironer in our family. The iron was hard to use; it had a residue on the bottom and so the iron didn't glide over the clothing smoothly. It would also have white powdery residue come out the steam holes periodically onto my clothes. Hated it. I decided to go to Amazon.com and search for my own private iron for my use! I believe the Panasonic NI-C78SR was the top rated for the price and the customer reviews were all positive, so I selected it. It came right away. Right out of the box I loved it. It has a water reservoir that comes off, making it easy to put water into. I've only used it twice. It irons smoothly; just the right amount of steam comes out. The results are perfect. I can't say enough about it. It's lightweight and perfect for a woman to use. I have it stored in MY closet so my husband doesn't use it! After I iron I take off the water reservoir and pour out the unused water and let the reservoir dry completely upside down. Then I put it back on the iron and store it. A great product for the price; and the service from Amazon.com was of course prompt and easy and reliable.

Customer Review: A work of Art - A cure for iron-o-phobia - I may ENJOY ironing!!??
Summary: 5 Stars

Tempted to give this 4 stars, because it's forcing me to learn a new habit...keep it in it's cradle whenever you set it down for a second to adjust the position of the object you're ironing. See quilter's review if you iron thick items. I'm not a pro, married to a pro who has been liberated from ironing... I hate, avoid and was phobic about ironing.

Until this:
PRO
1. I am left handed - I am still trying to avoid an "invisible cord"... it's great for lefties.
2. THE CONTROLS ARE VISIBLE - NOT CONFUSING. We just returned a $400 Italian iron with hard to distinguish controls.
2. no special water needed, transparent tank avoids uncertainty.
3. it's beautiful, in a case with recessed handle. Space age a la Jetsons!
4. To the Japanese designer ... Eraii! Kakoii! Subarashii! Excellent.

COMPLAINT FOR AMAZON: you AVOID mentioning the wattage or any technical and electrical specifications. This is not your normal policy. All electrical UL rated devices in the US and Japan publish their power usage

Customer Review: After 10 years I'm ordering a second NI-C78SR for stand by.
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this iron. No telling how long I've had it, at least 10 years, probably longer. I really don't need to replace it yet, but nothing lasts forever. At this price, such a deal. I love being able to unsnap just the water tank and fill it under the faucet, no mess, no special water, and it never sputters or leaves brown spots. The cord winder is a bonus, no waiting for the iron to cool, or winding it just right so the iron sits upright. (You do need to guide the cord so tht it winds evenly from top to bottom or it may stop before it's all tucked away). It steams beautifully, never leaks and is easy to self clean. I am a sewer and use a really heavy Rowenta for tailoring, etc. The Panasonic has outlasted at least 3 of the Rowentas which cost 3 - 4 times as much and are notorious for leaking. It is also much better for pressing fine fabrics as well as garden variety day to day ironing. I love it for batiste baby clothes, it has a nice sharp point and isn't so heavy that it hurts your wrist when you need to get into those tight little gathers.
