Tools and Hardware Reviews of Panasonic MC-V5210 Commercial Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Tools On-Board, Black

Customer Review: I love this vacuum!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have two of these for commercial cleaning and they are great. The simple design and easy to insert bags make it a breeze to maintain. It has a 50 ft cord. The metal handle and base plate make it durable. The best thing about this model is the triple brush roller. It sweeps low carpet well and on commercial carpet, you would swear it is self-propelled! (Not as good on thick carpet.) I have always loved the quick-draw tools on the panasonic models for my cleaning business. I definitely recommend this vac.

Customer Review: Great on carpets
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a no nonsense commercial vacuum cleaner that does a good job of pulling dirt out of carpets. Our professional cleaners used a Panasonic commercial vacuum and we noticed the carpets were a lot cleaner after they had vacuumed compared to when we did. Whether a typical home owner will be happy with a commercial vacuum depends on what features you are comfortable with.

Pros: Strong suction and brush action really digs dirt out of carpets.
Nice balance of power, size, and weight. Compact and easy to use.
At 15 pounds (w/o cord), it maneuvers easily and is not too bad to carry.
50' commercial cord allows you to plug it in once to clean several rooms or a large area.
Unlike some uprights, the fan pulls air through the filter bag and through a HEPA filter before it reaches the motor.
The on board tools are convenient and work well.
The machine is designed for frequent use and easy low cost maintenance.
At around $210, it offers good value compared to other trendy vacuums.

Cons: The cord is orange and rather substantial. If you are not comfortable winding a 50' extension cord using your arm or hands, putting this away will be a hassle. The agitator always spins when the machine is on, even when upright and using the onboard tools (the brush is raised off the floor when upright to prevent carpet wear). There is no light.

I really like the simple reliability of the design and having noticeably cleaner carpets. The construction is largely plastic for reduced weight, but with metal in the right places. The overall aesthetic is a proven low cost design.

Update: Having used this for a while, I'm even more impressed by its convenience. The size and weight make it easy to carry around or put a hand under the base to use on stairs or upholstery. To clean stairs for example, start at the bottom, face the vacuum toward you, and rest the base one step below the one you are cleaning. Use the crevice tool to clean around the edge of each step. On the way down, turn the vacuum around, put one hand under the base and the other on the neck, use the brush to clean the surface of each step. This is much easier than balancing a canister or having to move to a different outlet 3/4 of the way up. The whole machine is a moderate weight canister with a built-in brush. The only real con is the noise on bare floors since you can't turn the brush off. Most vacuums I've used border on loud with the power brush on, and this one is similar. A little quieter on carpets, but louder on bare floors.

Customer Review: Panasonic MC-V5210 Vacuum Cleaner
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the 4th Panasonic vacuum cleaner I've owned in the past 15 years (I have a 3-story home and like to keep a vacuum on each level). This commercial Panasonic vacuum doesn't seem to have the suction that my previous regular Panasonic models had (or maybe it's the brush roll?) We have several furry pets and I must vacuum the same spot over and over and over to get the fur up...and the results are only so-so. For the past couple of years I had been using a big, clunky top-rated (by Consumer Reports) Sears Kenmore vacuum on the main level of our home, but as the attachments on the Kenmore would fall apart while in use, I quickly relegated that vacuum to the basement. It did, however, remove pet hair quite effectively. Everything else about the Panasonic commercial vacuum is a winner...especially the well-fitting attachments. I love the longer cord so I can keep vacuuming from room to room. The unit has the by-pass motor feature, which saves $$$ in the long run. I would have given it 5 stars if it was better on pet hair. It is ultra-light weight and very easy to use.

Customer Review: What a let down!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this vacuum thinking I was replacing my old Panasonic model with the same newer model.....wrong.....this is the "commercial" model, and it is now a discontinued model......there were several differences.....when using the on-board tools, my old model allowed me to switch off the agitator with a foot pedal.....this commercial model does not have that good feature and clearly states in the manual...."CAUTION: If tools are used, and vacuum cleaner is left in upright position, carpet damage could occur. (From the agitator!) Agitator rotates when using tools, use care to ensure that nothing comes into contact with agitator. (No duh!)"......That is a SERIOUS design flaw, especially since it is a "commercial" model....I need to clean my blinds with the hand-held brush, and if the agitator cannot be shut off while allowing for a good suction feature for the tools, that's NO GOOD!....plus the suction over-all is worse than my older model (too bad my older model is discontinued, too)....plus, there is no bottom "cord hook" on the handle to wind the cord around, only a top hook...HOW cheap and inconvenient!....plus, the cord is an ugly "caution yellow" color, probably since it is a "commercial" model to make it look "industrial" (Not shown in photo!).....plus, when I tried to contact Panasonic's customer service, I had to make EIGHT calls, and got absolutely NO help from Panasonic!.....that was the straw that broke the camel's back.....I will not buy Panasonic again due to really bad customer service, and this model is not worth even a dime in my opinion.....I can't return it due to the high shipping and restocking fee from the seller, so I am now just going to keep my old Panasonic vacuum for a year or so more while I shop around.....I'm not sure what I'll do with this hunk of junk that I just wasted $220.00 on....thank God I can vent in this review....save yourself the headache and money....avoid buying this poorly designed machine, in my opinion.

Customer Review: Unsucky Vacuum

Way too much money to spend on a vacuum that won't suck up a cat hair off a hard floor. Hmmm, AND there's NO HANDLE to wrap the 40-foot cord around!! Panasonic has some brainiacs on their payroll.
