The EY7440LN2S drill/driver generates an impressive high-power maximum torque of 390 in./lbs., which makes it ideal for drilling and screwing into materials from metal sheets to wood. And control is never an issue. This model features variable speed operation including a reverse function, as well as an 18-stage clutch, plus drill position and electric brake. As a 22-year professional cabinetmaker, I've had lots of experience with several makes and models of cordless drills. Early on as an assembler/installer my employer purchased a Panasonic NiCad drill/driver and everyone in the shop fought for it because it worked hard and kept on going. With constant use it took 4 years to wear out a battery. Needless to say, I went for the lithium set when it came out due to its lightweight and Panasonic's name in the construction field. The best finish carpenters all had Panasonics and the ones I saw were beat up and looked about ready to retire but these carpenters wouldn't put them down. When the economy tanked in '08 I was out on my own and the drill and driver have been indispensable. They perform admirably under any stress I could give them and the batteries give me the long run time I need to stay on top of the work without lost time changing or charging batteries. Often I don't even take the second box with me to a jobsite. I've cut out some of the plastic wall in the first case, slip in the impact driver and leave the charger at home. If the first battery runs out I take the one of the other drill. Having been around fellows who drop tools for the time I've been a cabinetmaker, I have been very careful to avoid putting such a heavy investment to the test. Though dropped several times, there has been nary a scratch on the drill and driver and never a need to have it repaired to date. The belt clip, on-demand light that turns itself off after a delay when not in use, three-position impact settings, light weight, exceptional balance, stability when set down upright, power under load, compact design, power cutout design to prevent battery loss, long run time, solid, one-handed, and capable chuck, and the peace of mind that I have a great tool make this purchase a no-brainer. Like any tool treat it well and it will perform well. My only suggestion to Panasonic is that they come up with a way to put the whole kit in one box. With tools like this I can put up with the whine and any other minor imperfections. I just wish Panasonic would get serious and make more such tools. By the way, the bonus light is more powerful than any of my flashlights and has 4 angle positions when set down on a flat surface. Love it. Need I say more?
